Senior Process Engineer

IPSCO Koppel Tubulars is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for our Baytown, Texas pipe and tube finishing facility.

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for the development and deployment of site-wide process controls and continuous improvement initiatives (i.e. DMAIC, lean manufacturing, 5S) to reduce core business operating costs. Key in this effort will be: development and documentation of process controls, the collection and analysis of operational data, identification and prioritization of improvement opportunities, the development of solutions and deployment plans, along with tactics to sustain the gains.

In this role, you will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing continuous improvement projects from the conceptual stage through commissioning. You will develop and integrate continuous improvement into the site culture and daily activities.

The Senior Process Engineer may direct projects related to process change and have either direct or indirect supervisory responsibility for other process engineers.  The position reports directly to the Process Engineering Manager.

Principal Activities

Business Process Reengineering:
  • Manage the reengineering of existing business processes to improve efficiency. Work in partnership with cross functional teams to identify projects that support business initiatives and future business models.
  • Identify opportunities to improve work flow and provide access to accurate, real time, process information.
  • Analyze current processes through value stream mapping, flowcharting, and visual tools.
  • Define best practices through benchmarking, research, and professional associations.
  • Establish, monitor, and measure process metrics and goals and impact on overall performance.
  • Lead cross functional teams to deploy standard operating procedures and continuous improvement.

Strategic Plan Development and Deployment:

  • Work with facility management to develop strategic Planning Models.
  • Develop action plans to translate strategic objectives into actionable initiatives.
  • Define and use performance measures to drive and monitor organizational performance and evaluate the results in relation to the plan.

Process Management and control:

  • Standardize and Optimize new and existing processes.
  • Establish standardized process routings working with the financial group on standard costing.
  • Assist the Project Engineers and Operations in justification of capital projects.
  • Documentation of new and existing processes to include generation and control of SOPS and standard product routings.

Leadership and communication skills:

  • Use various change management strategies to overcome organizational roadblocks to achieve desired change levels.
  • Apply techniques that support and sustain employee enthusiasm and implement strategies that enable parties with opposing outlooks to recognize common goals and work together to achieve them.
  • Use interpersonal skills to support effective communication.
  • Make presentations to executive level management representing project objectives, scope, timelines, resources, and deliverables.

Education and Experience
Minimum requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Degree in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant business or project/process management experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and change management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams.
